Over the years I have collected thousands of patterns, including the pattern pictured above. I bought it oh so many years ago and have yet to make that cute sewing machine cover. One of the reasons I never got to it is because I always put my sewing machine away after finishing a project along with my patterns, fabric and sewing accessories. When I was going to sew again, I would have to unpack the fabric, bring out the sewing machine again with all the accessories...over and over again. It truly was a hassle. I have finally corrected my problem...
Moving That Sewing Machine...
Last spring I moved my sewing machine to our family room in the basement. I needed more space and we don't use that area very much. So I packed up all my sewing stuff and moved it to it's new location. A well lit, large room just for my me and my sewing machine.
I also needed a large table for cutting and for working on larger projects. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a craft table, so I went to my favorite website, Pinterest, and found a diy craft table that would work great for my purposes. I have worked with wood before, but I'm not very good at it. However, this project was pretty easy after reading the instructions even for a novice, like me.
Here is the table that was my inspiration. It was exactly what I wanted. If you would like more information on this type of table, please visit Decor and the Dog website for complete instructions.
And Here Is My New Sewing Table...
The cost was minimal, except for the counter top and even that was pretty reasonable. The frame was made out of seconds that I found at Menards. The cost for the wood was about $10. The counter top was about $40. So my perfect large sewing table cost me $50 and took about 3 hours to make. I love my new area. I have lots of sunlight in my new space which I didn't have before. Plus I have a beautiful view to the back of our home where we have hundreds of birds visiting. I love my new space.
Kitty Sewing Machine Cover
Now back to the sewing machine cover pattern which this post was all about. Although the pattern is no longer available through McCalls, you can purchase it on Amazon Prime with "free shipping" or ebay. Just click on the picture below and you will be redirected to Amazon.
I did come across a picture of this kitty pattern on ebay. It definitely appears to be the same pattern, only its made by Cotton Ginnys. If interested, just click here or on the picture below and you will be redirected to ebay for purchasing.
You have to admit, it's an adorable pattern for those kitty lovers. It includes two types of sewing machine covers and pin cushions to match. The original pattern also includes a sewing machine organizer that fits under your sewing machine. See picture below.
One Final Thought...
Although this post is short, I hope you enjoyed it. The post was intended to be about the pattern, but it also gave me a chance to show off my diy sewing table.
Many craft and sewing people have no idea that you can still find patterns that are out of print. They are still available if you just check the internet. The internet has everything. We just have to take the time to browse different places like ebay or Amazon. I'm sure whatever it is, you'll find it.
A Very Special Find On Ebay...
I actually found a china set that I had as a child on ebay. As a child I had so many tea parties with that tea set. As my grand-children started arriving, Grandma and her china tea set were used often. When our last granddaughter arrived, we enjoyed having the tea parties more than ever. The tea set was dwindling in size as pieces were now missing or broken. I had an idea...if I could find that China set on the internet and replace the items that were missing how great would that be? It was quite a hunt, keep in mind the set was well over 50 years old, but I finally found the exact same set. I purchased the set on ebay and completed my original set. I gave it to her for Christmas that year. She smiled from ear to ear because she now could have a tea party with Grandma's China dishes at home or while visiting us.
The internet is a great source for information. It also is a great source for finding items that are out of print. It is also a great place to find just about anything without spending lots of dollars driving all over just to be disappointed because you can't find what you're looking for. Before you start driving, check out the internet first. You won't be disappointed!
Brooke loves Grandma's tea set...Hopefully she will pass it on to her daughter some day.
While meandering around Pinterest, I found these sewing machine covers. I love all of them. Lots of ladies with great sewing ideas.
